Church of Saint-Etienne
beaussac
The Cistercian abbey of Boschaud owes its name to the topographical configuration of the site: Bosco Cavo means “hollow wood” or “wooded valley” in Latin. Founded in the 12th century and partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the abbey combines the main Cistercian principles with a style typical of the Périgord region, the church’s single nave being vaulted with a row of domes on pendentives. Rediscovered in the 19th century, the remains of the conventual buildings are imbued with a very strong spirituality. Interpretation panels on site.
