From the centre of Brantôme, the “Venice” of the Périgord Vert built into a loop of the Dronne, walk or cycle to the Château de la Hierce via the narrow Eiffel footbridge over the river. Follow the low wall on your left and discover the Renaissance dwelling built in the 1530s on the caves that served as its foundations.
While your guide tells you about the history of Château de la Hierce, the outdoor tour reveals a dwelling with a watchtower, mullioned windows and a loggia interrupted by a circular tower. After a visit to the caves decorated with prehistoric paintings, take a stroll through the grounds, which have been converted into a botanical garden containing several hundred species characteristic of the flora of the Dronne valley.
