Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption

la chapelle-faucher

Descriptif

The former chapel of a 12th-century Benedictine priory, the parish church of La Chapelle-Faucher was built in the pure Romanesque style with a cupola and had three bays. Badly damaged by the English at the end of the 14th century, it lost a bay during its restoration. The doorway was moved to the south side of the second bay, along with what remained of the sculptures from the old doorway. The apse is semicircular, the transept crossing still has a dome on pendentives and a side chapel in the Gothic style, added to the south, remains the property of the squire. The entire interior of the church is covered in wall paintings protected by a plaster coating.
