The church of Villars, dedicated to Saint Martial, was originally a Romanesque church. A small cupola remains under the bell tower, which was rebuilt in the 19th century on a 12th-century arcaded base. An apparent oculus suggests that the church was unusual in having a double narthex. The Villars bell, the largest in the canton, is renowned for the clarity of its tone. There were three bells before the Revolution. In 1793, two were removed and melted down for war purposes. Today the church has its three bells back thanks to the recent restoration of the belfry, and you can hear them in the morning and evening for the Angelus.
