Millstone site and interpretation trail

The plateaux and woods of the village of Saint-Crépin-de-Richemont conceal an unusual story that spans several thousand years: the extraction of millstones for grinding grain. Without them, we wouldn’t have had bread in our lives. This original industry has left behind a labyrinth of quarries littered with stone monsters, some Roman, others from the past. The quarry folk will take you on a journey back in time to the origins of bread, and tell you the story of the men who performed feats to extract mountains of round millstones from the “Riches Monts”.
