Millstone site and interpretation trail
Descriptif
The plateaux and woods of the village of Saint-Crépin-de-Richemont conceal an unusual story that spans several thousand years: the extraction of millstones for grinding grain. Without them, we wouldn’t have had bread in our lives. This original industry has left behind a labyrinth of quarries littered with stone monsters, some Roman, others from the past. The quarry folk will take you on a journey back in time to the origins of bread, and tell you the story of the men who performed feats to extract mountains of round millstones from the “Riches Monts”. Explanatory panels. Walking time: 1h30 to 2h00. Length of circuit: 2.7 km. Height difference: 100 m. Walking shoes recommended.
